SCHOOL ENTERPRISE PROGRAM
UAC SCHOOL ENTERPRISE PROGRAMME
The future is always going to look very different. At UAC we believe young people are not a problem to be helped or solved. Young people are always ambitious, creative and capable of rethinking the world and solving tomorrow’s problems today if motivated and encouraged. They can do it all with a social conscience that will let them build a better world in the process. UAC School Enterprise programme is all about backing the next generation of young people who are going to rethink the world and create a better future.
WHY WE DO WHAT WE DO
1- Our country-Cameroon today is full of increasingly complex issues like rising youth employment, poverty, inequality, climate change, sustainability of resources and a rapidly changing economy, just to name a few.
2-The world of work is rapidly changing with time and our young people need to be equipped with skills to cope with the changes. In fact, it’s estimated a young person today will have five career changes and an average of 15 jobs in their lifetime.
–Classroom Business project: Classroom Business is an immersive entrepreneurship program for schools. Each class in a school is provided a minimum of $50 of start-up capital to create, launch and operate their venture over the course of a school term. Each class has an elected committee made of a president, secretary, treasurer and financial secretary to manage the business on behalf of the rest.
Teachers are supported through pre-training on how to assist the children run the business that enables end-to-end delivery in the classroom, and student engagement through a dynamic cloud based platform. All materials are aligned to the Cameroon Curriculum.
-Creative Minds Project
This is a UAC initiative in supporting young people who are leading responses to the most pressing social and environmental challenges of our time.
Creative Mind Programme is open to Cameroonians aged 18 to 25 years who are using their influence, platform or initiative to change the world. Young people from all backgrounds, cultures, religions, locations and walks of life are encouraged to be involved.
–Career Path Project: Our experience of working with young people shows that young people who have a more exposure /immersive careers learning experience through activities such as job shadowing, internships and careers conventions have better success in navigating the changing world of work. UAC’s Career Path Project (CPP), delivered by teachers in the classroom, links student learning with real-work experiences – and Career exploration.
–Community Solution Project: Community Solution project in Schools is an in-school enterprise learning program that provides young people with the skills, coaching and seed funding to develop innovative solutions to local community challenges while developing their enterprise and employability skills. The program is designed for senior primary school pupils and secondary students and is facilitated by students from Business and Management schools in Buea. Also included in this project is Container farming using recycled plastic bottles, One-Child-One-Chicken, beats making, organic gardening, poultry and cookery.
What we intend to do: UAC HUB- We intend to setup a UAC Hub for Cameroon’s growing community of young social change makers. The hub will be a place where, we shall run an entirely free co-working space where like-minded young change makers can meet, connect, collaborate and take their impact to the next level as a UAC Hub member. We intend to regularly open our doors to our wider community with events, workshops and networking opportunities.
